HCI in Seoul

A look into my experience as a Human Computer Interaction student in Seoul, South Korea

Culture

I loved seeing some of the palaces in person. It's so interesting to be able to touch and see such an old, historical site where royalty used to live. I also really enjoyed seeing everyone in the traditional Hanbok dresses. Even more so, I loved going to the Hanok village. It was so interesting to learn about the architecture they used to keep houses warm and cool, as well as the arches used to get people to bow before entering a home. I'm a huge fan of architecture, especially when it comes to houses, so this was an extra special site visit for me.

Existing In Harmony

Seoul balances nature and technology very well. Between the neon-lit signs are beautiful trees and flowers. There is clearly an appreciation for natural beauty while still being a very tech-forward city.

Korea's Nature

The greenery was stunning and so refreshing to walk out to every day. I also really enjoyed the few foggy days, where there was a really pretty fog over the top of some mountains.

About me

Hello! My name is Kaitlyn. I will be a fourth-year student at ASU studying Human Systems Engineering. I'm very interested in how people think and behave, and how technology can influence people. I want to use technology to improve people's lives, whether that be through health and wellness, safety, or improving everyday interactions.

I have been a research assistant in two labs and have conducted several studies with human participants and animal subjects. I'm always excited by new research, especially pertaining to human performance, wellness, safety, learning, and aviation.
